The strategy was adopted in compliance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which states that countries should develop, implement and update measures to mitigate climate change and facilitate an adequate adaptation process.
The objective of the document is to lay out the route to be followed in the country in reducing the risks and impacts of climate change. The strategy is to integrate management actions in sectors and regions that deal with vulnerability reduction and to achieve a sustainable development based on a low carbon economy.
Before approval, the strategy was submitted to public consultation under the provisions of the Regulations on Transparency, Access to Environmental Public Information and Citizens Participation and Consultation in Environmental Issues.
