Since 1974 “National Forest Week” in Peru has been held in order to raise awareness among the general public about the importance of conserving and making sustainable use of forest resources.
This year, the slogan that encompasses all activities in the country is: “Productive Forests for Life” and is associated with the valorization of forests, based on the activities carried out in them. Through all the activities programmed in Lima and in the departments where the 13 Technical Forestry and Wildlife Administrations (ATFFS) are located, the aim is to emphasize that forests offer not only wood, but also non-timber resources such as leaves, fruits, lianas, insects, among others.
It should be noted that forests also allow ecotourism, bird watching and various activities derived from environmental services (availability of water, enjoyment of nature and absorption of carbon dioxide to mitigate the effects of climate change). In this sense, SERFOR seeks to promote the sustainable management of the forest and wildlife heritage by publicizing the possibilities they offer to value and care for them.
