The “II Venezuelan Symposium on Climate Change” will be held in the city of Mérida from 14th to 18th November, 2016, under the auspices of the Academy of Physical, Mathematical and Natural Sciences of Venezuela and the University of Los Andes, through The Inter-American Centre for Environmental and Territorial Research and Development (CIDIAT), and the Institute of Environmental and Ecological Sciences (ICAE) of the Faculty of Sciences, with the support of other public and private institutions at regional, national and international levels.
Professionals, students, public and private sector managers, community leaders, NGOs and stakeholders related and interested on climate change issues are invited to participate in this important event. The symposium honours the memory of Prof. Rigoberto Andressen, a pioneer in the study and teaching of climate change in Venezuela, who was part of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) of the United Nations, who received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
The objective of the event is to provide a space to evaluate the relationship between science and politics with climate change and its integration in the decision-making processes of the public and private sector in Venezuela, serving as a platform to consolidate collaboration and exchange of experiences between academia, civil society, the private sector and regional and national public management. All this is oriented to the generation of proposals that lead to solutions for this problem.
